Chronus 2.17 is released in MMI’s Cydia repository.

For those that are not familiar with this application, Chronus is a replacement for TimeCapsule in 1.x, and serves to backup states of applications from multiple date/time and restore these data. In 2.x, Chronus supports backup of Cydia/Installer’s and AppStore applications.

In this latest release, Chronus has been updated to include:

• Sectioning of application list by alphabetical order for easy browsing
• Backup of Library and Preferences folder (previously, only Documents folder is backedup)
• French localization

Check out the compatibility list as well for the latest addition.

Changes:

• Fixed: Restore of backup for certain AppStore applications not working
• Added: File Browser to see the file/folder listings of backed up files
• Added: Add support using chronus:// URL within the web-browser in Chronus (previously, this only works from Safari)

Change Log:

• Fixed: Application crashes when trying to backup VoiceMail
• Fixed: Application crashes when trying to backup non-existent files (e.g no Notes is available)
• Fixed: Empty backups for some AppStore applications

I found some annoying bugs in Chronus 2.1, thanks to users that have submitted their logs.

• Chronus 2.1 crashes when trying to backup voicemail (due to wrong path in the database)
• Chronus 2.1 crashes when trying to backup non-existent files

The 2 issues above have already been fixed. Until I release them, I’m sure you know what you need to do to avoid the crashes.

One user have reported that the URL link to add support in Chronus is not working.  Note that the link will only work if you click on the link in Safari, and not from within Chronus or Cydia, or any other applications. But I have not come across the chronus:// not working when launching it from Safari. Can I have more confirmation of that?

An update for Chronus will be released in Cydia in a few more hours (because I’m not hosting it myself). Here’s the full list of changes:

• Fix crashes at startup (caused by certain AppStore applications)
• Backup All button (for non-demo)
• Turn on/off Backup All Mode for each applications
• Green button indicates Backup Mode is On
• Email backup (requires attachment= for mailto: by saurik)
• Help button 
• Add support for more applications using custom URL, chronus://

Thanks for all those that submitted your crash log. I have already worked out a fix on it, and 2 guys have confirmed that it works fine now.

The fix will be released in 2.1, which is already completed, but under testing.

Chronus 2.1 will come with some other features:

• email of backup
• backup all mode (only backups user-defined apps’s settings so it does not backup unncessary files)
• addition of support through URL

The last feature above is probably the most exciting feature. Developers can now add support to their applications but specifying the parameters in a URL. Users will have  surf to the developers’ website, click on the link and it will automatically launch Chronus and inserts all the necessary parameters. If this works out well, then there’s no need to wait for me to release a new update just to add support.

Chronus 2.0 is released in Cydia, at modmyi repository.

A user just told me that I should add in backup for Contacts. Of course that’s my intention right from the start. Can’t believe I forgot about it. Before the next release, drop me an email fast on the Cydia/Installer app you want to get supported, and full path of files/folders that I should backup. Thanks.

Some users reported crash at startup. If you are one of those and you can want to help out, try to install syslogd and LogMailer from Cydia to send me the logs.

Thanks for the logs. I think I may have found the problem. Just need a few users to test it out for me.

Chronus is a replacement of TimeCapsule for firmware 2.x. I have changed the name to avoid confusion with a lot of other stuff with the same name out there.

Some of the old functions in TimeCapsule are currently missing in Chronus because I rewrote the app, and will build up on the functions later. The list of compatible Cydia/Installer’s application is also limited at the moment. Do drop me an email if you wish to add suppor (please include the name of the application, and the full path of files/folders to backup). New to Chronus is the ability to backup the Documents folder of AppStore applications.

Chronus will be available soon in Cydia, in modmi’s repository.

I have been busy reading up on 2.0 SDK and converting my current applications to run on 2.0. Even more so that Pwnage is released now. Sorry if you guys think that I have been ignoring your emails or the forum. I have to put my full attention on the conversion, and everything else on hold.
